You’re likely to see more of this warm weather pest in Sunshine Coast backyards soon.
The warm weather pest season has started earlier than usual this year.
Sunshine Coast Pest controllers are struggling to keep up as householders try reclaiming the cracks, crevices and cupboards from bugs and spiders.
Ants are top of the trouble list, but an entomologist said that mosquitoes, midges and brown hedge grasshoppers were likely to create havoc in the backyard.
Dr Christine Lambkin, of the Queensland Museum, said the extended summer had given members of the insect world a chance to squeeze in an extra generation for the season.
“We had the rain that broke the drought and the insects have really responded to that.
“That means that we’ve had masses of adults and they are going to lay eggs”.
